A POTO/LM comic! This is actually supposed to be apart of a scrapbook to be given to John Owen-Jones (currently the Phantom on the 25th Anniversary Tour, and was Valjean in the Les Mis 25th Anniversar tour!)

Week 2 for the CCAD sketch group! This week's prompt was to design a monster based off the monster generator. I got: "Pleasant bear girl who wears fall clothing and likes fish."

For the fall clothing bit, I googled "fall clothing lines" and tried to find something that matched the character description.

I used the middle as inspiration.

LOOK I animated a thing.

Usually my animations include some sort of les mis character dancing and/or stripping so this was a nice change of pace.

"Dead and Alive"

This piece was prompted by opposites. And because I'm apparently "creepy", I chose dead and alive.

Originally the lady was supposed to be a lady-knight. BUT I found that armor didn't look like armor when it wasn't a metallic color, and I felt very limited by a metallic color scheme. I suppose in hindsight the armor could have been gold and still worked out ok. But whatever I like the cloaked figure too.

"The Huntress"

This is probably one of my favorite illustrations I did this year. There are things wrong, obviously, but I really pushed myself with composition and texture here and I think it paid off.

Here are some character sketches I did for the Huntress. Definitely a character I plan on exploring in future illustrations.

A break from your usual illustrations with some deer skull still lifes I did in October.

As promised awhile ago, here's a process post!
Russell Crowe as Javert!
Ok here we have the lineart. Beneath this is a plethora of crappy sketches trying to get the anatomy somewhat correct.  For this I used the custom brush stumpy pencil. As you can see I have my reference images to the right. I scrapped the taco hat because I just frankly hate it when Javert has the tricorn and I do what I want.

OK base colors! I do each color on a sperate layer beneath the lineart. I use a custom brush I made myself. It's kinda like watercolor but not really.

OK here's where stuff starts looking better.  I add the details to the colors, using the same brush as before.

OK here I added the "halo" and the text. The text is hand written, which I'm insanely proud of to be honest.

OK now I added the texture. To me, it just helps things look a bit more unified and colors look blended. I use a black and white water color texture that I set to overlay on top of all the other layers. I then adjust the contrast, as the texture usually makes the image look a bit too bright.

A viloa! We're done! Hope you found that informative, whoever you are.

"Spoonfuls of Hope"

This was my ISAP (independent study art portfolio) final from 1st semester. We chose a headline from a pile of newspapers and made an illustration inspired by it. This final really made me feel like a proper art student. It was a lot of fun and I ended up really liking the final product. My headline was "spoonfuls of hope" and I think the article was about soup kitchens.

"Phobia"

I decided to start my own sketch group for the 2016 CCAD Class facebook page! First week's prompt is "phobia". I might still do the prompts from that other sketch group if I have the time (this weeks prompt is "An Ideal Meal" and I have something in mind, plus I don't draw food that often so I'd like that challenge).

Anyway art school (and college in general) is really freaking me out right now.

Self Portrait

Ok so I'm somewhat mooching off the prompts of this sketch blog (run by a bunch of artists way more talented than me).

But hey I need the motivation to get something somewhat finished done a week so.

there was time when love was blind
and the world was a song
and the song was exciting
there was a time
then it all went wrong

Kinda making "les mis characters based off the movie with a grey background and white text" a series.
But yes here's Anne Hathaway as Fantine. I don't know what happened with this but ugh it took forever and I just wasn't happy with it no matter what I did but whateverrr.

I'm going to do Javert/Russell Crowe next. Might screen cap my process and post it here. Stay tuned!

"Poppies"

It's probably not obvious why this is called "Poppies" so let me explain.

You honestly can't see it very well (especially when printed) but the girl is holding a black poppy, which in victorian flower language represents rejuvenation or rebirth.  The piece is a part of my "Maiden and the Sea" collection.

The story is ,roughly, is about this maiden who lives by the sea and is meant to be married to this super sexist jerk, but then she runs away on a ship into the sea to start a new independent life.

It is a really reallllly realllllly rough story that I haven't written down besides a few lines of poems here and there in my sketchbooks. I hope to add more to this collection in the future, in the inspiration strikes.

A Phantom of the Opera comic!

Just some fanart for the new Les Mis movie! The trailer looks phenomenal and I cried just a bit a lot.

I'll get back into posting more art from this past year. Soon! Might do another doodle post, since that's most of what I've done this summer in terms of "art".
